The January transfer window is typically a time of intense speculation and possible big-money transfers. A number of prominent stars find themselves connected to moves out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the major figures who could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, this has kept the player in contention, indications are a significant transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a brief window at the start of the month. However, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh winger has had first-team opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the club's top scorer the previous campaign, he has started only a small number of league games. Reports suggest the North London outfit is open to a transfer for the right price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Spurs rate Brennan Johnson at around £40m.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only twenty-eight, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he represents a possible bargain. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the player. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following new coach Flick. Having lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter exit looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a possible suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. But, securing a transfer presents significant hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to a win in the domestic cup showpiece.

C. Gallagher

The energetic English midfielder drew widespread attention in the summer but remained at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be eager to secure more minutes ahead of the World Cup. United have been heavily connected, and a move back to Selhurst Park, a club he shone on loan, is also a option, although wage constraints could be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Despite excelling and being named player of the tournament at the U21 Euros last summer, this young player has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Aston Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer won't become permanent. Due to specific rules regarding playing for two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next season seems to be the sole viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkey forward has been in fine form for Juventus this term. As his current contract running down, many Premier League sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but are in a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to make a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around £22 million.
